Cyprus 50 Years Later is a video series by Ten Tone Productions,
created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of
Cyprus in 1974.
Through ten in-depth interviews
featuring thirteen Cypriots now living in Ontario, the series
preserves personal stories of resilience, loss, and starting over.
Many of these voices come from a generation that often carried the
weight of trauma in silence, without the language or support to
express what they had lived through. This project offers them the
space to speak openly, with honesty and dignity, while helping
break the stigma around trauma in our community. Hosted by
Elisseos Kyrillou and filmed and edited by Peter Athanasopoulos,
the series brings together stories of displacement and survival,
but also of rebuilding, identity, and pride.
By
capturing these memories, Cyprus 50 Years Later not only honours
the experiences of those who lived through the war but also
preserves them for future generations, ensuring they remain part
of our collective history.
